Dr. Guy Figer is one of Israel’s leading violinists and a prominent figure in the country’s chamber music scene. He serves as concertmaster of the Galilee Orchestra, with which he has also performed as a soloist, and is a founding member of the acclaimed Trio Ben-Haim, regularly performing across Israel and internationally.
He is a faculty member at the Buchmann–Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University and at the Israeli Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv, where he heads the Strings Department. He also teaches regularly at the national violin seminars of Keshet Eilon.
Figer is a two-time first prize winner of the Paul Ben-Haim Competition, in both violin and chamber music, and was awarded the Thomastik-Infeld Prize at the Prague–Vienna–Budapest Summer Academy. He has received ongoing scholarships from the America–Israel Cultural Foundation.
His performances as a soloist have taken him to stages across Israel, Europe, and North America, and he has recorded for radio stations in Vienna, Chicago (WFMT), New York (WQXR), and Israel ("Voice of Music"). His debut album, released on the New Focus Recordings label and distributed by Naxos of America, received enthusiastic reviews in leading U.S. classical music magazines.
Figer began his violin studies with Vali Blutner and Avi Abramovich, and later with Irina Svetlova and Hagai Shaham. He pursued advanced chamber music training with members of the Alban Berg Quartet and continued his graduate studies in the United States under Shmuel Ashkenasi and Arnold Steinhardt. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree from Rutgers University, New Jersey.
