Dr. Uri Brener – Composer and Pianist

Born in Moscow, Dr. Uri Brener studied at prestigious music institutions in Russia, Germany, and the Netherlands. He immigrated to Israel in 1996 and holds a doctoral degree from Bar-Ilan University.

To date, he has composed over one hundred works in a wide range of styles and for various ensembles. His compositions have been performed in major concert halls around the world, including across Europe, the United States, Australia, Russia, and more.

As a pianist, Uri has performed in a variety of prestigious settings both in Israel and abroad, both as a soloist and in collaboration with leading musicians.

Among the performers of his works are the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra with Frédéric Chaslin, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israeli Sinfonietta Be’er Sheva, the “Moscow Soloists” under Yuri Bashmet, and the “Tel Aviv Soloists” under Barak Tal. His works have also been performed by international soloists such as violinist Sergey Ostrovsky, trumpeter Sergey Nakariakov, horn player Arkady Shilkloper, flutist Noam Buchman, the New Juilliard Ensemble (USA), the Aviv Quartet, and the Carmel Quartet, among others.

Uri has received numerous awards, including the Prime Minister’s Prize for Composition (twice, in 2006 and 2017), three ACUM awards, as well as additional international prizes.

From 2007, he served for a decade as Composer-in-Residence of the Israeli Sinfonietta Be’er Sheva. Since 2016, he has been the Music Director of the Mikro Theater in Jerusalem. In 2017, Uri Brener was appointed Director of the “Ron Shulamit” Conservatory in Jerusalem.
